Brake light switch failure is
quite common on the allroad (all late VW and Audi's). The
symptoms of failure are typically the 3 light salute in the
instrument cluster (Suspension, ABS and Engine). The effects of
the failure can be nothing visible to brake lights not working
to zero boost to the motor. That's right I said zero boost. This
$20 part is monitored by the ECU and other subsystems in the car
and will effect their choices of performance mode. You should
carry a spare in the glove box. I'm on number three as of 92,000
miles.
Here is a link that I used the
first time I replaced mine. It's being done on a VW Mark IV but
it's the same on the allroad.
